Book excerpt: In his latest addition to the esteemed Anchor Bible Commentaries, scholar Gary Knoppers examines one of the most neglected books of the Old Testament and established its importance as a key to understanding the nation of Israel. Who were the Israelites? Was Israel's first king, Saul, a hero or a disaster? Was David a gifted and accomplished leader or a murderer and a cheat? Did Solomon preside over the most glorious epoch in Israelite history or did he lead the nation into a fateful decline? In I Chronicles, the distinguished scholar Gary Knoppers addresses these questions through a thoughtful and exacting reading of one of the last books of the Hebrew Bible. He shows that Chronicles, which contains a variety of viewpoints on the major events and people, provides a distinct perspective on much of Israel's past, especially the monarchy. He discusses how the chronicler's introduction to the people of Israel redefines Israel itself; explains and defends the transition from Saul to David; and shows how the Davidic-Solomonic monarchy was not only a time of incomparable achievement and glory, but also the period during which the nations most important public institutions -the Davidic dynasty, the Jerusalem Temple, the priests, and the Levites--took formative shape. I Chronicles, part of a two-volume set, is the first to employ systematically the Dead Sea Scrolls to reconstruct the biblical author's text. Knoppers reveals how Chronicles is related to and creatively drawn from many earlier biblical books, and presents a fascinating look at its connections, in both compositional style and approach, to the historical writings of ancient Mesopotamia and classical Greece. Featuring a new translation and an extensive introduction that incorporates up-to-date research, this volume replaces the Anchor Bible I Chronicles commentary written by Jacob Myers in 1965.

Download PDF The Books of History of the Old Testament by Rev. Harold E. Petersen and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2022-07-25 with total page 422 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Word of God, the Bible, has been a vital part of my life. We had family devotions. I went to Sunday school and memorized verses. In confirmation, we studied the Bible and catechism. And worship texts from the Old Testament, Epistles, and gospels were read every Sunday. These continue to draw me into the Word. I was in high school when I began to read the Bible through in a year. As I would read, I would mark verses that had special meaning for me. Some chapters were so full of gems of truth that I chose several. The Books of History reveal to us the record of the acts of the Lord God with his people, the family of Jacob or Israel. The history begins as they cross the Jordan, conquered the land. We read of the troubles during the time of the Judges. We follow the reigns of kings Saul, David, and Solomon. We sense the distress of the divided kingdom and the time of exile. These books are important to our life of faith. The details were written down so that we can avoid the same sins. I am drawn to the magnificence of our God’s grace as he forgives the sins of the people and calls them to obey.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is: One God over all gods. The Most High God of them all. In Primordial Genesis, God takes on the most powerful god of ancient times...His grandmother/mother. Armed with the auras of all the other gods, who were unable to defeat her, as well as the four (North, South, East and West) winds, gifts from His uncle, and with the seven powerful winds He created (the atrocious wind, cyclone, hurricane, fourfold, sevenfold, whirlwind and tornado), He makes His way to battle her. With a charming smile, God defeats her and destroys the head of her army. This act guaranteed that He would become the Most High and most powerful God. After this act of war, He is celebrated and when the celebration is over He creates! After six days of creation and saying it is good, He rests on the seventh day and says it is very good! God, then brings Adam into His personal garden in Eden and has him work the garden. Adam becomes the world's very first gardener! As Adam is working, God saw that it was not good for Adam to be alone, so He caused a deep sleep to come over him and He created Eve. With only one command, "You can eat of every tree EXCEPT the "Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil" Adam and Eve were bound to this command if they were to stay in God's garden. Armed with Free Will they had multiple trees in the garden that they could choose to eat from including the "Tree of Life" ...then temptation slithered in with thoughts and ideas that they could have it all and still live their best lives... You think you know their story...but do you?

Download PDF The Impact of the Book of Enoch on Christianity and Other Religions by Dr. Randy Delp and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2017-03-31 with total page 375 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Considered an expert about the Book of Enoch, Dr. Randy Delp has put together an analysis of this ancient book to explain why Jesus and the New Testament writers were not only influenced by the Book of Enoch, they quoted its contents, cited its texts and labeled it Scripture. The teachings of Enoch have influenced every major monotheistic religion including Islam, Judaism, Christianity and Zoroastrianism and vestiges can be found in Hinduism, and other ancient religions. The footprints of his teachings are seen throughout every generation and the finality of his message has yet to be fulfilled. Enochs influence in astronomy, history, religion, education, and para-psychology has forged how society thinks today. It is significant to note that the prophet named Enoch, who was born seven generations after Adam and Eve, may be the only person in history who has had a positive effect on every major and minor religion, while nothing negative is ever spoken about him.
