Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: They called it the Thorn Hill Massacre-the brutal attack on a once-thriving Weir community. Though Jonah Kinlock lived through it, he did not emerge unscathed: like the other survivors Jonah possesses unique magical gifts that set him apart from members of the mainline guilds. At seventeen, Jonah has become the deadliest assassin in Nightshade, a network that hunts the undead. Emma Claire Greenwood grew up worlds away, raised by a grandfather who taught her music rather than magic. An unschooled wild child, she runs the streets until the night she finds her grandfather dying, gripping a note warning Emma that she might be in danger. The clue he leaves behind leads Emma into Jonah's life-and a shared legacy of secrets and lingering questions. Was Thorn Hill really a peaceful commune? Or was it, as the Wizard Guild claims, a hotbed of underguild terrorists? The Wizards' suspicions grow when members of the mainline guilds start turning up dead. They blame Nightshade, bringing tensions between the groups to a head. Racing against time, Jonah and Emma work to uncover the truth about Thorn Hill, amid increasing concern that whoever planned the Thorn Hill Massacre might strike again. Praise for The Heir Chronicles: The Enchanter Heir * "Chima orchestrates a world gravid with smoke and grit and sudden death, throbbing with hopeless longings, messy affections, festering resentments, passionate hungers, inevitable betrayals, and miraculous flashes of beauty and grace. A smoldering story soaked in tears, sweat and blood, constantly threatening to blaze into an inferno. Spellbinding." -Kirkus Reviews (starred review) "Intriguing plot and subplot teasers abound, and the book ends in a cliffhanger that will have readers roaring for the next entry. Chima continues to excel at building tension and populating her well-told tales with new and returning characters we want to know better." -Booklist The Dragon Heir "Chima spins a finely structured tale that roars to a satisfying conclusion." -School Library Journal The Wizard Heir "Chima uses her pen like a wand and crafts a wonderfully rich web of magic, while thankfully leaving some dangling threads for subsequent tales." -VOYA The Warrior Heir *"Chima offers a pitch-perfect blend of high fantasy and small-town reality..." -The Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books (starred review)

Book excerpt: The sequel to The Warrior Heir by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Cinda Williams Chima. Sixteen-year-old Seph McCauley has spent the past three years getting kicked out of one exclusive private school after another. And it's not his attitude that's the problem: it's the trail of magical accidents—lately, disasters—that follow in his wake. Seph is a wizard, orphaned and untrained, and his powers are escalating out of control. After causing a tragic fire at an after-hours party, Seph is sent to the Havens, a secluded boys' school on the coast of Maine. At first, it seems like the answer to his prayers. Gregory Leicester, the headmaster, promises to train Seph in magic and initiate him into his mysterious order of wizards. But Seph's enthusiasm dampens when he learns that training comes at a steep cost, and that Leicester plans to use his students' powers to serve his own wicked agenda. In this companion novel to The Warrior Heir, everyone's got a secret to keep: Jason Haley, a fellow student who's been warned to keep away from Seph; the enchanter Linda Downey, who knew his parents; the rogue wizard Leander Hastings; and the warriors Jack Swift and Ellen Stephenson. The only question is: Does Seph have the strength to survive this wizard war?

Book excerpt: Three boys, three talismans, one destiny. In this page-turning trilogy, Cinda Williams Chima explores what it means to be different, what’s worth fighting for, and what’s worth dying for… THE WARRIOR HEIR Jack lives an unremarkable life in Trinity, Ohio. Only his daily medicine and the thick scar above his heart set him apart from other teenagers at his high school. Until one day, Jack skips his medicine and finds himself stronger, fiercer, and more confident than ever before. He feels incredible – until he nearly kills another player on the soccer field. Soon, Jack learns the startling truth: he is Weirlind, part of a magical underground society of wizards, warriors, and enchantors. Weir’s mighty, feuding houses of the Red Rose and the White Rose determine power through The Game, a modern-day gladiator battle in which warriors from each house fight to the death. The winning house rules the Weir. But Jack finds out that he’s not just another member of Weirlind—he’s one of the last warriors—and both houses are scouting for a player. THE WIZARD HEIR Sixteen-year-old Seph McCauley has spent the past three years getting kicked out of one exclusive private school after another. Unfortunately it’s not his attitude that’s the problem. It’s the trail of magical accidents—lately, disasters—that follow in his wake. Seph is a wizard, orphaned and untrained--and now that the only person who could protect him has died, his powers are escalating out of control. At the Havens, a secluded boys’ school in Maine, Seph meets headmaster Gregory Leicester, who promises to initiate him into his order of wizards. But Seph soon learns that training comes at a steep cost, and that Leicester plans to use his students' powers to serve his own malicious agenda. This wizard war is one that Seph may not have the strength to survive. THE DRAGON HEIR The covenant that was meant to keep the wizard wars at bay has been stolen, and Trinity must prepare for attack. Jason Haley finds himself excluded from the action – until he finds the Dragonheart. The opal stone seems to sing to his very soul, but Trinity's guardians seize it after they realize its powers. Madison Moss feels the beating heart of the opal, too. The desire for it surges through her, but Maddie also has a secret. Ever since absorbing the magical blow that was meant to kill Seph, she's been leaking dark powers. Trinity's enemies believe they can use her to get to the Dragonheart – and they'll use anyone she cares about to make her steal the stone for them. Moral compasses spin out of control as a final battle storms through what was once a sanctuary for the gifted. With so much to lose, what will Jason and Maddie be willing to fight for -- and what will they sacrifice?

Book excerpt: The Son and the Heir is an epic adventure story set on an island in an imagined world where rival households compete for survival and supremacy. The story follows the fortunes of four main characters - Juscius, Adonis, Rabica and Pluvius - in a time of social and political upheaval, as the mutually suspicious Households of the island gradually advance towards war. It focuses on the efforts of these characters as they attempt to reconcile their personal relationships, political convictions and Household allegiances in the face of conflicting loyalties and intense political and social pressures.Troubled by personal loss, the young lord of the largest house, Juscius Latman, has converted to a rising new religion propagated by his mentor, Zeuorox, but the latter has entered into a compromising political alliance with the lord's oldest friend, the merchant Ruperis, with the aim of advancing their mutual interests. With the prospect of the age-old balance of states thrown into chaos, Juscius' rival, Adonis Gatan, seeks to resist, only to find his political professionalism challenged by the rise of the young upstart.Rabica Lewerix, the son of the third largest house, is a troubled heir, unable to accept his destined future role in a political system he despises. Caught between political dissatisfaction and the emotional turmoil of his rejection by a young noblewoman, he embarks upon a journey of escape with the aim of freeing himself from all burdens - a journey that leads him to his seeking to understand not only the purpose of his own life, but the purpose of all existence on the island. As the efforts towards diplomacy break down and the conflict explodes, Rabica and Pluvius are propelled towards self-discovery, while Latman and Gatan prepare for battle. This is a book which will be enjoyed by fans of The Lord of the Rings, and other works which fall into a similar genre to Tolkien or C.S.Lewis.

Download PDF 1 and 2 Chronicles by William Johnstone and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 1998-01-01 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This two-part commentary argues that Chronicles, placed as it is among the 'historical books' in the traditional Old Testament of the Christian church, is much misunderstood. Restored to its proper position as the final book in the canon as arranged in the order of the Hebrew Bible, it is rather to be understood as a work of theology essentially directed towards the future. The Chronicler begins his work with the problem facing the whole human race in Adam-the forfeiture of the ideal of perfect oneness with God's purpose. He explores the possibility of the restoration of that ideal through Israel's place at the centre of the world of the nations. This portrayal reaches its climax in an idealized presentation of the reign of Solomon, in which all the rulers of the earth, including most famously the Queen of Sheba, bring their tribute in acknowledgment of Israel's status (Volume 1). As subsequent history only too clearly shows, however, the Chronicler argues (Volume 2), that Israel itself, through unfaithfulness to Torah, has forfeited its right to possession of its land and is cast adrift among these same nations of the world. But the Chronicler's message is one of hope. By a radical transformation of the chronology of Israel's past into theological terms, the generation whom the Chronicler addresses becomes the fiftieth since Adam. It is the generation to whom the jubilee of return to the land through a perfectly enabled obedience to Torah, and thus the restoration of the primal ideal of the human race, is announced.
